“I am writing to again express my deep admiration for your reprints of the Decennial Census Reports. I have given myself the privilege and pleasure of examining the volumes from the 16th, 1940, that you shipped us, and I find them perfectly wonderful: bright, crisp, clear, and clean--and far, far more attractive than the fragile, browning originals, with their occasional rumpled page or penciled interlineations that we had in the library. More important, of course, is knowing that they will be here serving scholarship for centuries after you and I have long since moldered away.
“It's my guess that very few librarians--and almost no end users--will suspect how much detailed care has gone into your production of the products to assure that they are entirely reliable, complete, perfect--and handsome too. But, in aggregate, and for uncounted years to come, the name of Norman Ross will shine as reprinter and preserver nonpareil, and your name on the spine will be a guarantee of excellence.”

The Archivo General de Centroamérica,
1544-1821, is the largest and most important collection of documents on
the early history of Spanish Central America anywhere in the world. Comprised
of more than 144,000 primary documents, it was preserved on approximately
4,000 reels of 35mm microfilm nearly 40 years ago by McMaster University
in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture
of Guatemala. However, until today the microfilms were only available
on site in the Mills Memorial Library at McMaster. Now, Ross Publishing, under agreements
with both McMaster and the Ministry of Culture, is authorized to make
copies of the films available to libraries and researchers throughout
the world for the first time.
“The documents comprising the Central American Archives are
unique both as individual primary sources and in their assembly in the
present collection. They afford us at once a first-hand glimpse into the
minutia of a lost society, and in the aggregate, are a vast database documenting
the many facets of its workings.” –Dr. John Browning, Professor Emeritus
of Spanish at McMaster University
